In the group stage of the 2023 Field Hockey European Championship, both the women's and men's tournaments will consist of two groups with four teams each. Each country will play against each of its group opponents once, resulting in six group-stage matches per group. After the group stage, the top two teams from each group will cross over to compete in the semifinals. The losers of the semifinals will face off in the bronze medal match. The winners of the semifinals will vie for the European crown in the grand final. The third and fourth-place teams from the groups will compete in the loser's bracket for places five to eight.
